Turck Temperature Sensor with Plug & Play

Turck’s robust TS+ sensors with IO-Link offer smart functions for easy commissioning and predictive maintenance concepts

Turck is expanding its innovative range of fluid sensors with IO-Link-capable sensors for flexible and reliable process temperature measurement. Both compact devices with an integrated temperature probe (TS700) as well as processing and display units (TS720) for connecting resistance thermometers or thermocouples are available.

Robust sensor design with IP69K protection increases system availability

As a member of the fluid sensor series that won the iF Design Award, the TS+ sensors also meet the growing demand for straightforward commissioning and high plant availability. This is supported by the robust stainless steel housing with touch operation instead of mechanical operating elements, which are ideally suited for use in harsh industrial environments thanks to IP67 and IP69K protection. Besides process values, the IO-Link interface provides the user with a large volume of condition monitoring data for smart IIoT applications.

Auto detection for fast commissioning

To simplify commissioning, the TS+ devices also feature automatic detection of the output type (PNP/NPN or current/voltage), as is already offered by the PS+ and FS+ pressure and flow sensors. The processing units of the TS720 series also detect the type of temperature probe (TC or Pt), thus eliminating a frequent source of errors. If the TS+ has to be integrated in existing installations or replace existing sensors, the selection of different IO-Link process data profiles makes it possible to adapt the device quickly without the need for laborious modifications in the controller.

Two sensor variants with large measuring ranges

The TS+ sensors are typically used in machine and plant building applications as well as in the process industry. Compact TS700 devices operate in a measuring range from -50 to +150 °C. Depending on the temperature probe connected, type TS720 processing and display units can even cover temperature ranges between -200 and 1800 °C.

Wago – Current transformers and energy meters (MID)

The WAGO current and energy measurement technology portfolio is supplemented by plug-on current transformers for billing purposes. They correspond to module D of the conformity assessment procedure and can be optimally combined with the new WAGO energy meters (MID) to form a complete solution. A quick fastening adapter enables simple and inexpensive fastening in the control cabinet. The user benefits from a high level of flexibility thanks to the many mounting options. The new plug-on current transformers are used in applications in which the electricity of large consumers cannot be measured directly, for example when measuring the energy consumption of producing machines in order-related manufacturing or when billing the individual energy consumption per Tenants in distributed properties.

Turck Reliable condition monitoring using the QM30VT1 vibration and temperature sensor

Whether in exhaust systems, pumps or compressors – motors of various sizes are used in production plants and warehouses, quite often in remote locations. Maintaining machines is therefore time-consuming and prone to errors, especially if maintenance personnel are only instructed to perform on-site inspections on an infrequent basis.

Instead, data from multiple motors can be collected, evaluated, centrally displayed and, if necessary, linked to alarm actions in order to warn of impending failures in good time. Users can use radio technology to connect the QM30VT1 vibration and temperature sensor with the high-performance TX700 HMI device for this purpose.

Rugged Sensor Detects Vibration and Temperature Values

Has the motor become loose, causing the shaft to be misaligned? Is a bearing jammed or is an attachment out of balance? Mechanical vibration can flag up issues such as these. The QM30VT1 vibration and temperature sensor detects vibrations with a high level of accuracy. For this purpose, the compact MEMS-based sensor (Micro-Electro-Mechanical System) is simply mounted directly on the motor block via a magnetic holder. From there, it delivers speed and acceleration data over two dimensions in different frequency ranges. Changes in the measurement data can then be used to identify various forms of damage.

Measuring the temperature of the motors is also vital, as a significant increase in temperature could be an indication of wear or insufficient lubrication on a bearing. The IP67 sensor also detects such temperature changes within a measuring range of -40 °C to +105 °C.

Data Transfer via a Proprietary Wireless Network

Maintenance personnel can wire the vibration and temperature sensor to the battery-powered DX80 radio module. The measured values are then sent to the receiver module of the DX80 system via a proprietary wireless network.

Customized Data Visualization

Maintenance personnel see all engine status data clearly displayed on Turck’s HMI/PLC TX700. Thanks to the TX VisuPro software, the values from the motor can be displayed in a variable manner. In addition, users can read out historical trends, extract log data or configure alarms such as automatic e-mail notifications. Ethernet connection to the company network is also possible, allowing data to be queried throughout the entire company.

Control System as a Stand-Alone Solution

With this stand-alone solution, maintenance personnel can always view the status data of all machines – whether on site at the HMI or on every computer in the company network.

Wago Earth fault detection

Increase availability through improved, preventive maintenance.

In accordance with the IEC 60204-1 standard, measures must be taken to reduce the probability of malfunctions due to insulation faults / earth faults in a control circuit. A widely used option is the connection of 0 V to the earth potential in the control circuit, connected to an upstream fuse. With the new earth resistance signaling module, WAGO now offers the possibility, in addition to the 0V earthing, to also fully automatically detect the undershoot of a non-adjustable, asymmetrical insulation resistance between +24 V or 0 V of the supply voltage and earth. The Iso-OK status can be signaled to a controller with an integrated potential-free contact. In addition, LEDs on the module clearly indicate the insulation fault to the operator. This significantly simplifies maintenance compared to mechanical earth wire disconnect terminals. Instead of the previously usual manual test of an earth fault about every 3 months, there is now a permanent test of the insulation resistance. Early detection of impending earth faults enables improved preventive maintenance and thus ensures increased system availability. The user can select the grounded / ungrounded control circuit operating mode using a slide switch; however, the module does not meet the requirements for insulation monitoring devices according to IEC 61557-8.

Benefits:

Automated measurement of insulation resistance

Early detection of looming earth faults

Signaling of insulation faults via LEDs and potential-free contacts

Turck LRS510 Level measuring radar sensor

The new LRS510 sensor family from Turck offers comprehensive analysis functions for demanding level applications in tanks and silos.

Radar sensors of the recently developed LRS series with IO-Link complement Turck’s portfolio for level measurement in the range from 0.35 to 10 meters. New devices with IP67 / 69K protection are particularly recommended for factory automation level applications where optical or ultrasonic sensors are unsuitable due to disruptive factors such as dust, wind or light. Free-emitting LRS radar sensors offer detailed analysis functions that were previously only possible in modern radar sensors in the process industry. The lack of a metal guide probe makes it easier to use the sensor in hygienic applications and simplifies commissioning

The capacitive keys and the touch surface of the LRS series, with their translucent front cover, are based on the same concept as the Fluid 2.0 sensor platform from Turck and transmit data on distance, level and volume values. LRS sensors are available with two digital outputs or one digital and one analog output. Thanks to additional IO-Link interfaces and signal preprocessing, all variants offer a large amount of additional information for processing in condition monitoring applications on IIoT. In addition to the signal strength, this also includes temperature values, operating hours or switching cycles.

Turck’s IO-Link master users can call up the radar monitor via the IODD configurator without the need for additional software. The browser-based configuration tool shows the measurement curve of the sensor graphically and offers plain text access to all relevant parameters. This makes it possible, for example, to mask the interference signal from a mixer or network or to align perfectly with the real-time feedback from the sensor in order to maximize the reliability of the level measurement in demanding applications.

WAGO Energy meter (MID)

Comprehensive energy measurement is necessary to optimize energy consumption. WAGO now has new energy meters in its portfolio that offer numerous advantages. You use the Push-in CAGE CLAMP® with a lever and can therefore be connected very easily and quickly. The devices are only 72 mm wide with direct measurement and even only 35 mm in the version for current transformers. This saves the user a lot of space in the control cabinet.

In addition to the values for active and reactive energy, the energy meters also record grid frequency as well as current, voltage and power for all phases. The user sees all energy quality features at a glance on the large, illuminated display. The new energy meters are real communication professionals. All devices have both an M-Bus and a Modbus® interface that the user can use as required. In addition, two S0 interfaces are available for both energy directions, with the pulse rate being adjustable. The configuration and operation of the new meters is very easy: The large display facilitates operation via the integrated sensitive operating elements. In addition, a configuration app can be used that communicates with the device via Bluetooth®. With the new energy measuring devices, a wide variety of applications in buildings or in industry can be implemented – the MID declaration of conformity also enables applications with consumption billing.
